Reflection on Noelle's Capstone
A few weeks ago, Noelle gave her capstone project presentation over zoom, and taught the viewers about LGBTQ rights in Mexico as well as a parallel story of LGBTQ rights in the United States. The project was opened up with a these parallel histories of gay rights in both America and Mexico. This part of the presentation was so interesting to me; I had never really been a part of a classroom that studied the history of gay rights in the United States, let alone another part of the world, so I really appreciated this context and background. After this history, Noelle’s film was shown, which captured the testimonies of two young people who talked about the intersection of their national/ethnic identities with their queer identities. These testimonies were my favorite part of the presentation; the film was beautifully put together, and the readings of the testimonies were meaningful and heartfelt.
