Reflection on Noelle's Capstone

A few weeks ago, Noelle gave her capstone project presentation over zoom, and taught the viewers about LGBTQ rights in Mexico as well as a parallel story of LGBTQ rights in the United States. The project was opened up with a these parallel histories of gay rights in both America and Mexico. This part of the presentation was so interesting to me; I had never really been a part of a classroom that studied the history of gay rights in the United States, let alone another part of the world, so I really appreciated this context and background. After this history, Noelle’s film was shown, which captured the testimonies of two young people who talked about the intersection of their national/ethnic identities with their queer identities. These testimonies were my favorite part of the presentation; the film was beautifully put together, and the readings of the testimonies were meaningful and heartfelt. After learning about the histories of gay rights in the United States as well as in Mexico, the testimonies added a sense of personality and communicated the depth of the histories we had just learned about from Noelle.
